SPECIAL PROGRAM BY SIRIUS COYOTE:
“EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS”
"Day of the Dead"
Put on your fancy shoes
and join us as we recreate the sights, sounds, smells and spirit of
one of Latin America’s most important holiday,
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS.
Latin America’s Day of the Dead (November 1st and 2nd) is a
festive celebration to honor the dearly departed.
Unlike Halloween these spirits do not come back to haunt us, but
rather to join us happily for a few hours,
and warm their bones with music and friendship.
Connecticut’s Latin-Folk
group, Sirius Coyote, will play selections of contemporary and ancient
music using an array of authentic folk instruments, many crafted by the group’s
members. The performance can be followed or accompanied by slides and/or
video that give a graphic look at what the people in Latin America do during this festive time.
There is also a traditional altar with offerings of flowers, copal
incence, skeletons and other worldly items.
The magical sounds of the group’s music brings it all to life.
