DESCRIPTION: Students from a specific grade level (every class in one grade) will rehearse and perform a music and dance show to report on what they have learned from their "visit" to Latin America. The idea is that students will have researched several topics on Latin American culture and pretend that they have just returned from a trip there to investigate those topics. The result is a postcard they have sent back to the school for each topic and a demonstration through songs, games and dances of what they have learned. Some scenery, props and costumes to be made by the classes and their teachers or community volunteers, i.e. rain forest plants and animals, piñatas, school props, fiesta items, market scene, pyramids, etc. Sirius Coyote will perform with the students on the day of their presentation.
SAMPLE TOPICS: Schools, Environments, Foods, Celebrations,
Ancient Cultures, Animals, Family, Games…
Topics can be developed according to curriculum-linked materials
for the class.
This residency is designed to let the students show the rest of the school and the community what they learn in class from discussions, demonstrations, videos and book research about Latin America and its cultures. Presenters will provide selected grade-level appropriate songs, games, games, videos and music that the children can easily learn and perform. Most songs are taken from Sirius Coyote’s cassette recording entitled "Canciones Para Niños." Teachers can continue to practice the songs with the children in between visits.
